A Bit About Me
My name is Joey Kriete and I humbly ask for your support to serve as your next Grant County Sheriff. I come from a family of Grant County Pioneers who have called Grant County home for several generations dating back more than 100 years. I was born and raised in Ephrata and graduated from Ephrata High School in 1990. I then attended college and began my pursuit to be a Law Enforcement Officer becoming a Reserve Deputy for Grant County 29 years ago. A year later I was hired full-time as a Deputy and attended the Washington State Law Enforcement Academy.

I was born and raised in Ephrata and graduated from Ephrata High School.
I attended college and began my pursuit to be a Law Enforcement Officer becoming a Reserve Deputy for Grant County. A year later, I was hired full-time as a Deputy and attended the Washington State Law Enforcement Academy.
In my 29 years with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, I have served as a Patrol Deputy, Major Crimes Unit Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Motor Unit Sergeant and for the past 10 years a Chief Deputy of the Jail and most recently Chief Deputy of Investigations. I am fortunate to have successfully served “hands on” in almost every area of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in my 29-year career. This has provided me a thorough and working understanding of the entire operations of the Sheriff’s Office in not only Leadership but also budgeting. Throughout my career I have dreamed of and prepared myself to serve as the Grant County Sheriff. During the course of my service to Grant County, I have been recognized as a leader in all my endeavors. I am honored to have been certified and serve as an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Instructor, Traffic Collision Investigations Instructor, Motor Officer Instructor, Forensic Child Interview Specialist, Forensic Mapper, Medico-legal Death Investigator, First Level Supervisor, Certified Middle Manager, and Certified Executive Level Leader.
I initiated a traffic/safety study as to the feasibility of a Motor Safety Unit and its viability in Grant County.
I concluded the study and presented its findings to Sheriff Detrolio and the Grant County Commissioners with the unit formed shortly thereafter.
While serving 10 years as Chief Deputy of Corrections, I have overseen the entire jail operation and budget. Recently I have been instrumental in the design and internal structuring of the new Grant County Jail with construction anticipated to start in 2023.

My Personal Life
Jennifer and I currently live in Moses Lake, and are blessed with two daughters, Sydney and Katelyn. As a family, we enjoy skiing/snowboarding, boating, camping, and all sports. I also love to cook! Currently, and for more than ten years I have volunteered as a varsity assistant baseball coach for Ephrata High School as well as serving as a softball coach. I also serve as the President of the Moses Lake Rattlers Fastpitch Association and formerly served as a board member for the Moses Lake Boys and Girls Club. Public service has always been at the fore front of my life.
My Goal as Sheriff
I realize the need to seek community input as you are our eyes and ears. With the new sweeping legislative changes, we continue to learn to adapt to “law enforcement 2022”. Working together and building true community relationships and partnerships will be absolutely critical to achieving the level of service our community deserves.
Most importantly, I will serve the citizens of Grant County through adhering to and respecting the rights of our citizens as prescribed in the United States Constitution. I will not be swayed by those attempting to undermine and destroy the rights granted by the Constitution. At all times, I will serve the citizens who elect me with a commitment to integrity and with the same dedication I have provided the past 29 years.
I ask for your support and vote for the honor to serve as your Grant County Sheriff.
